Q- How many service hours do I need each school year?
A- In total, each member must complete 60 service hours per year. 20 of these hours must be through NHS-sanctioned events and projects (NHS Hours) and 10 must be submitted at end of semester, and 40 can be through any other service project that you'd turn into guidance at school (Regular Hours). Make a copy of regular hours to submit to NHS.
Q- Can I do more than 20 NHS Hours?
A- Absolutely! Any NHS Hours that you earn after the 20-hour mark can and will count toward your regular service hours.
Q- How do I turn in hours?
A- Hours will be turned in at the end of each semester as a paper submission.
Q- How does NHS see the hours I turn into guidance to count as my regular hours?

A- Starting your sophomore year, if you meet the requirements of membership, you will be sent a letter of interest which will guide you on the application process to NHS. If you decide not to join your sophomore year, another letter will be given junior year.
Q- If I was in the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) in middle school, am I automatically a member?
A- No. While we do appreciate community service at all ages, to be an NHS member, you must be at least sophomore that meets all membership requirements.
